Day 01: Arrive Cochin
You arrive in Cochin by Domestic / International flight. After a
traditional 'Swagat' (Welcome) our representative would meet &
assist you at the airport and to our hotel for check-in.
Cochin always had a very popular and historical sea trade connection
with Middle East, Mediterranean Europe, Dutch and British. It has one
of the finest natural harbors on the Arabian coastline. Its
cosmopolitan character is reflected in the buildings and structures
representing different regions of the world. It is one of the few
places in the world where one can see a Jewish synagogue, Portuguese
churches, architecture, mosques, temples and Chinese fishing nets, all
in one city. A city of peninsulas and islands, today it is Kerala's
commercial hub.
Today afternoon our guide will take you for a half day city tour of
Cochin, with visits to St. Francis' Church, Dutch Palace (Built by the
Portuguese), Jew Town, the Jewish Synagogue built in the year 1568,
spice market, where the air is filled with the pungent smell of spices,
and Chinese fishing nets. In the evening we see Kerala's most popular
classical dance, Kathakali. Overnight stay at the hotel
Day 02: Cochin
Morning post breakfast you will be taken for a visit to Edappally
church and Kerala history museum is a treasure house of important
scenes of Kerala history from Neolithic age to Modern age. Apart from
this, various famous paintings are also exhibited here next we leave
for an excursion to Athirapally located at 78 km from Cochin, this
scintillating waterfall is a popular tourist spot. Further we continue
our tour to Vazachal, A short drive from Athirapally, this picturesque
waterfall is close to dense green forests and is a part of the
Chalakudy River. In the early evening drive back to Cochin for
overnight stay at hotel.
Day 03: Cochin-Periyar (185 kms / 5hrs)
After breakfast, we drive at 0900 hrs to Periyar. Upon arrival at
Periyar, we assist you to check in at our hotel. Set on an attractive
lakeside, it is South India's most popular Wildlife Sanctuary and is a
nice place to cruise on the lake and have an opportunity to see
wildlife.
It is home to tigers, leopards, elephants, bison (gaur), antelopes,
sambhar, wild boar, money etc, and a wide of variety of birds. Late
afternoon at 1500 hrs we shall take you to a guided Spice tour in one
of the Spice Gardens / Plantations for which this region is famous.
Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 04: Periyar-Kumarakom(130 Kms / 3-4 hrs approx)
Early morning before breakfast at 0630 hrs we go for wildlife viewing
to the sanctuary on lake Periyar by boat cruise. After two hours of
wildlife viewing we get back to the hotel for breakfast. Later we drive
to Kumarakom and on arrival check-in at the hotel. Late afternoon
sunset boat cruise on Lake Vembanad.
Day 05: Kumarakom-Houseboat
Morning is at leisure. In the
afternoon board the houseboat, locally called Kettuvallam, and cruise
towards backwaters of Alleppey - observe and experience the daily life
of the villagers along the backwaters. It's a never to be forgotten
overnight experience on the backwater cruise. Overnight stay at the AC
Houseboat.
Day 06: Arrive Alleppey - Mararikulam (12kms / 30min.)
In the
morning arrive to Alleppey and transfer to Mararikulam Beach Resort,
one of the best beach resorts in Kerala. The village of Mararikulam is
tucked away behind a line of dense palms. The resort looks alike a
small village in itself and is neat and clean with footpaths between
the cottages and other places. The resort has a full-fledged Ayurveda
Centre, both for treatment and relaxation. It is recommended you
experience the traditional oil massage here. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 07: Mararikulam
Full day at leisure to relax at the beach resort or enjoy an Ayurvedic massage at the resort.
Day 08: Mararikulam - Cochin (60 Kms / 02hrs) - Depart
Note: Marari is 60 kms from Cochin city. It would take more 45 kms / 1 hour from the airport.
